Work Vessels for Vets Awards $31,000 in Equipment for Injured Veterans Thanks to Fortunato Construction Group’s “Greens for Good” Charity Golf Event
"A huge "thank you" to the owners and staff at CT's Fortunato Construction Group from everyone at Work Vessels for Vets. Their "Grreens for Good" first annual charity golf event at Lake of Isles Golf Center at Foxwoods Casino was a resounding success, even in the rain! The proceeds enabled Work Vessels for Vets to provide a "hand up" to these deserving new veteran-entrepreneurs.
ARMY Ranger SGT Grayson Reed starts video business in CO “To everyone at Work Vessels for Vets, I wanted to say thanks for the camera! I have already done two shoots with it at a parade for corgis and a for a car commercial. It's amazing and has helped me so much, I am the happiest I have been. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life. ” SGT Grayson Reed.
Sgt Reed was a US Army Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment who went on three combat deployments to Afghanistan. He was tasked with filming and photographing combat missions. He got out of the military with 100% disability rating and really struggled to find a new purpose in life. He decided to start a career in photography and asked Work Vessels for Vets for help with the expensive HD Video camera he needed. With funding from the Fortunato Construction Group “Greens for Good” tournament, WVFV delivered the $7000 camera to him.
ARMY & AIR FORCE SGT Tracy Hillman of MA receives much needed tractor
Fortunato Construction Group ‘s “Greens for Good” golf tourney also raised $7000 for a tractor! Bronze Star awardee SGT Tracy Hillman retired from a career in both the US Army and US Air Force as a combat intelligence analyst and started a pollinator and cut flower farm. Her 100% disability injuries told her that she needed a small tractor to lift, mow and tend her bees. Work Vessels for Vets found one near her and learned that the seller wanted to honor his family of military veterans. Seller Mark Coleman deeply discounted the sale and went above and beyond to tune up his tractor and personally deliver it to Tracy. Up, up, and away!
ARMY SGT Dustin Alger of ID moves onward with drift boat for new guide fishing business Mentor matching is a huge part of Work Vessels for Vets success stories. When SGT Alger returned from several combat tours with 100% injuries, he found peace on the rivers of Idaho and requested a used drift boat for his fledgling fishing guide business. Dan Laffin of CT, a previous WVFV awardee, was a perfect match who also takes injured vets on fly fishing trips. They developed a business plan and Work Vessels for Vets granted $8500 for the vessel, thanks to funds from Fortunato’s “Greens for Golf.” Dustin says, “I am so amazed! I did two tours in Iraq and one to Afghanistan. In the latter, we were the first expeditionary forces since WWII. I’ve been fortunate enough to have stared at the Himalayas and stepped through Babylon. Thank you.”
